Adrian Hernandez-del-Valle
Econometrician & independent researcher · Founder of Windrose
Dr. Adrian Hernandez-del-Valle is an econometrician and independent researcher based in Montreal. His work sits at the intersection of climate data, agricultural insurance, and commodity markets — areas where regulatory and actuarial decisions rely on underlying datasets whose quality is rarely audited. He holds a PhD in Economic Sciences from Instituto Politécnico Nacional (Mexico), an MA in Statistics from Columbia University, and an MSc in Artificial Intelligence from Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya. He is trilingual in English, Spanish, and French.
In April 2026 he launched Windrose, the first independent station-level reliability assessment of Environment and Climate Change Canada’s precipitation monitoring network. The methodology was specified by the office of Minister Julie Dabrusin and now serves institutional clients — actuarial firms, crop insurers, engineering consultancies, and provincial agencies — that depend on Canadian climate data for parametric insurance triggers, hydrology models, and federal climate reporting.
Alongside Windrose, Adrian is developing Trutina, an AI-powered academic journal recommender that uses a five-agent adversarial debate architecture over a curated corpus of approximately 100 journals and 10,500 documents. Referee is currently in research and development.
Adrian holds the rank of Level 1 researcher in Mexico’s Sistema Nacional de Investigadores (SNI) and has published more than 20 peer-reviewed articles on commodity markets, financial econometrics, and climate-price transmission. He served two three-year terms as Dean of Graduate Studies & Research at IPN’s School of Economics, and continues as affiliated faculty teaching econometrics and supervising doctoral students. He is also a Technology Solutions Consultant at Services Communautaires pour Réfugiés et Immigrants (SCRI) in Montreal.
Earlier in his career he was CEO of Intelligence Matters, a consulting firm specializing in natural language processing, forecasting, and risk management, and Senior Data Scientist at ESTA International, where he provided surveillance of the Mexican Electricity Wholesale Market. Prior data science projects include pollution forecasting in the Spanish Mediterranean, mortgage-backed security pricing, and big-data modeling of consulting firms.
